What we are:

The Michiana Career Network Association (MCNA) is an association of volunteers working together to help people find jobs. MCNA meetings are support groups for job seekers. Volunteer Leaders work with members to facilitate discussions, provide encouragement, and increase the skills required to effectively identify, target, and connect with employers seeking to fill open positions. MCNA meetings are open to all job seekers and, on occasion, to invited guests and speakers.

What we are not:

The Michiana Career Network does not have jobs for job seekers and does not place job seekers with employers. We are not recruiters, outplacement facilities, or career counselors.

What we offer:

Volunteers at MCNA meetings provide resources to review resumes, provide mutual support and information about ways to use the internet, facilitate discussions to increase interview skills and organize a job search, and provide other information relevant to those out of work or are currently employed and are looking to change jobs.

The MCNA Website:

The MCNA website is a central resource of employment information for Michiana area job seekers, employers, recruiters, and HR representatives. We encourage you to bring additional resources, news articles, job opportunities and other employment related resources to the attention of MCNA members so others can benefit from the information during their job search.

What we expect:

MCNA asks that participants:

  • Attend regularly
  • Freely share job leads and information
  • Share your successes and frustrations
  • Keep confidential any personal information that is shared
  • Pray for one another
  • Invite others to MCNA
  • Let MCNA know when you have taken a job.

MCNA asks that speakers:

  • Focus presentations on topics that benefit people looking for work
  • Refrain from direct recruiting calls

Job transition offers you a gift of time. MCNA encourages you to use this gift wisely.

To this end, MCNA asks that participants try to do three things every week.

  • Make progress in your job search,
  • Do something toward self-improvement, such as job-skill enhancement (classes, computer skills, etc.) or exercise or other health improvement, and
  • Make a significant effort to help others (e.g. volunteering in your church, in a community agency, or other charitable work that you might not have time to do when employed).

MCNA may occasionally ask participants to volunteer some time to help MCNA improve the services it offers.
