I set a goaEric Hugginsl of finding a local job where I could spend time with my youngest two children when my consulting work dried up as the economy took a nose-dive in the winter of 2008. While I enjoyed traveling, I missed my family and feeling I was part of a community. As the recession deepened I grew more and more concerned that our community was not doing enough to help those struggling with being out of work, and began looking for ways I could contribute. I knew one way I could combine my growing passion for the Michiana Community, concern for those out of work, and my need to market myself was through volunteering. My previous travels left me with few local connections and I knew that a job search might be a long haul. So, I set out looking for community volunteer activities where I could make a difference. My search for volunteer opportunities and word of mouth about my job search eventually introduced me to Pam and Andy at Elkhart's People Between Jobs. It was there I found Larry, Carolyn, Rachelle, Don, Lou, Dave and the many other friends I developed at MCNA.

I will be regularly including stories of people who have found positions.  Here is what Connie Kabzinski's wrote when I asked her if we could share her story.

Carolyn, of course you can share it with others….anything to help encourage them to continue their search and NOT GIVE UP.

Connie KabzinskyMy background is finance.  I started my career out in accounting, most notably as Corporate Accounting Manager and then went into corporate taxes where I spent the last 15 years.  I have wanted to get back into the accounting area so I was applying to both tax and accounting/finance positions.  I saw an add in Craig’s List for a financial analyst position with Fortis Plastics and applied to it not knowing salary and thinking I may be over qualified for it.  About a week later they called me and told me they had a Corporate Accounting Manager position opening that they thought I would be a better fit for and would I be interested in it?  OH, YESSSS!!!  The interview went great, they wanted to fill the position quickly and after a background check they offered me the position at the salary I was making before!  It wasn’t until after they called me that I saw the Corporate Accounting Mgr position on Craig’s List.

Not a text book way of getting a job.  I feel that God has answering my prayers…I am back doing what I really love, my boss is amazing (several from Fortis have also said so) and I am thrilled.  My faith in God, believing He was working behind the scenes for me, preparing the RIGHT job for me sustained me throughout my time between jobs.  He truly wants the best for everyone and He wants a close relationship with everyone.  I encourage those who don’t know God intimately to start today to take their next right step toward Him…and they will find a peace they have never known before. Probably more than you expected to hear but I am passionate about my relationship with God and want others to know and experience the love and peace He wants for us all.  I was very happy when you had prayers said at each meeting.  Keep up the great work you and the others are doing.  If I can assist in some way, please let me know. Connie
